How To Save Money By Making Pumpkin Spice At Home

Pumpkin Spice is expensive. A tiny container that is only slightly over 1 ounce is in the $3~$4 price range. What if you want more than that? That tiny container won’t last you all fall. You could easily use more than a couple of those doing the recipes in my upcoming Paleo Pumpkin Recipies Ebook. So we need to make it ourselves. Luckily this is both cheap and easy.
By cheap, I don’t mean less than the price of 1 container of pumpkin spice. To make this mix it will be a larger upfront cost. Probably in the $10 range. But you will make enough to last all year.

If you are like me you probably have all the ingredients to make pumpkin spice already. Or some of them. I feel that the main two ingredients are Cinnamon and nutmeg. You can’t make this without those two. No way no how. You will just have noodle water seasoning. The rest of the spices you can play with to suit your taste.

Mountain Chang From Chronology

This week Mike and I welcome on Mountain Chang from Chronology. Mountain is the creator of the Primal Professional shoe. The Primal Professional fills the gap in professional minimalist footwear. Until Mountain Chang created it there wasn’t anything decent on the market. With a very ugly vibram being the only other zero drop minimal dress shoe.

I did a full review on them a few months ago Here.  After a year of use they are still my favorite pair of shoes. I’ve used them outside of work for everyday shoes and walked around a ren fair all day in them.

We talk about Mountains decision to go paleo. We dig into his training routine . Mountain is using the Wendler 5/3/1 system. A very organized and analytical way to gain strength.

We round out the show by talking about gun. Mountain bought a mossberg 500 shotgun for self protection. He talks about the how he choose that model.

The Primal Professional

Chronology Primal Professional Review

The Primal Professional
The Primal Professional

I originally talked about the Primal Professionals way back in December of 2012 when I interviewed the creator Mountain Chang. I think I heard about them on the Robb Wolf podcast. I immediately loved the idea of a minimal dress shoe. My work would flip out if I showed up to work in my Vibram Five Fingers. The retail management world just isnt ready for them. My feet though could not handle the 12 hour days on concrete wearing traditional dress shoes. Someday’s I would come home limping from feet pain. I knew I needed something. Are the Primal Professionals the something I was looking for? Let’s find out.

Since I got these shoes for review, lots of exciting things have happened over at the Primal Professional. They’ve rebranded to Chronology. Their Resole and Restoration program, which gives your shoes a second life, is up and running.
They’ve joined 1% for the Planet, a network of businesses that pledge 1% of their sales to nonprofits that are protecting, restoring, and improving the planet we all live in (notable 1FTP members include Patagonia and Paleo Treats).
They’ve added some cool new features, like elastic laces that turn the shoes into functional slip-ons. They just received version 3 of their continuously improving shoes. They’re now taking preorders (save $50) for version 4 on http://chronology-lg.com/. They will be made by a new shoemaker, and include a new Oxblood color.

Advanced Nutrition

This week we talk Advanced nutrition with Gary Collins. After having Gary on about his off grid project I wanted to pick his brain on more nutrition. Gary, creator of the primal power method, has been in the industry longer than the competition. He is one of the few Master Level personal trainers. He knows his stuff when it comes to advanced nutrition.

I hit Gary with some tough ones this week. Many questions that I have on my health journey. I feel though that many have the same problems. There is a lot of talk in the health blogs on intermittent fasting, gut health, and weight loss stalls.

Gary handles all my hard ball questions without flinching. The mark of a true expert. On many points we agreed completely. On a few I heard answers I didn’t expect. That got me excited. One of Gary’s tops supplements he recommends is turmeric. That’s not something you hear from others in the field.

Gary goes in-depth on the topics. We spent a good 20 minutes on just intermittent fasting. The whys and hows. We also talk about who fasting is not for. It is a great tool for weight loss. But not right for everyone. Definitely not for beginners, elite athletes or bodybuilders. If you are trying to put on mass restricting your eating to a small window is stupid. If you are largely sedentary and trying to lose the last few pounds it works great.

I love Gary’s take on blood work and supplements. There are several supplements to be taking without any blood work. Vitamin D3 is one. We can  guarantee that if you live in the continental 48 you need it. If blood testing was cheaper testing would be or viable.

Jeff Nimoy On Paleo

This week Mike and I are Joined by Jeff Nimoy. He is an Emmy Award winning actor/writer/director/producer. Jeff  runs both the cooking caveman blog and the dating site SamePlate.

I came across Jeff’s blog years ago when I was first looking for an easy Paleo Bread recipe. As mentioned before I’m a terrible baker. So all my previous attempts had been failures. Jeff’s recipe was so easy a caveman could do it. While on his site I read his bio. That’s when I noticed he did a voice in one of my favorite Animes. TriGun as Wolfwood.

On top of creating great recipes Jeff created SamePlate. Sameplate reviewed by me here. Sameplate matches couples based on what they do or do not eat. You can find paleo, vegan, gluten-free or even another pizza addict. Which is either very important to you or not at all. I like the idea of finding someone concerned about what they eat. For others it could be a matter of life or death with food allergies. So if you are single go sign up.

We talk about what Paleo means to Jeff. Why he decided to go paleo. His best and worst paleo creations and much more.

As always please leave us ITunes Feedback if you dig the show.
